Asking the public for information

Page updated: 30 November 2020

If you're the Incident Controller, you may want to ask the public for information during the Operations stage. You can do this in a variety of ways.

Choose the most appropriate way to ask the public for information

You may ask the public for information by using:

  • public broadcast band radio and other media outlets
  • private radio networks, for example, private radio networks operated by the Department of Conservation, councils (including park rangers), transport operators, recreational groups and organisations
  • public radio networks, for example, marine coastal radio VHF and HF networks operated by Maritime New Zealand, aviation networks operated by Airways, air traffic control at airports
  • social media that can be accessed by the New Zealand Police.
